Biography:

Andrea is the director and founder of Ashtanga Studio Berlin. She has studied different traditions of Yoga since 1986. In the first years she practiced in the tradition of Shivananda and Iyengar until she found Ashtanga Yoga in 1997. Since then her practice and teaching focused completely to traditionel Ashtanga Yoga.  She has been a yoga teacher since 1995 and in May 2005 she founded her own school, the Ashtanga Studio Berlin.

In 2009 Andrea was certified by Manju P. Jois  to teach the Primary & the Intermediate series of Ashtanga Yoga. She has his blessing to teach the Advanced A Series and to offer “teacher trainings” and Intensives for advanced students and Yoga teachers.

Her own Ashtanga practice is mainly influenced by the „old style“ of Sri K. Patthabi Jois teachings, carried by her teachers Manju P. Jois and Nancy Gilgoff . With both she is closely connected since 2004. Since 2006 she travels every year to Maui for a long study trip to refine her own practice. She finished the old ‘Advanced A’ series  under Nancy´s guidance and completed the syllabus of Pranayama, as taught by K. Patthabi Jois, with her. Further she studied extensly Pranayama with Vinay Kumar in Mysore/India for many years and completed in 2022 the Pranayama teachers apprenticeship course with him.

Apart from learning from her main teachers, she studied Yoga over the last 3 decades with many world-renowned teachers in Europe, India, Japan and US to broaden her horizon.

Andrea possesses extensive and sound background knowledge of alternative medicine and she holds a degree as a health practitioner as well as a degree in physiotherapy. Her entire adult live she is studying different ways of moving and healing the body and mind. She is sitting regularly Zazen, and she studied different methods of body work therapy, like Shiatsu, Feldenkrais and Reiki (II. degree). Furthermore Andrea was actively engaged in performance art and dance for more than 10 years.

When you don´t find her teaching her daily Mysore classes in Berlin, she is travelling to offer workshops and retreats in Europe and around the world. She developed her own unique training for advanced students and Yoga teachers. Which she offers every year since 2008.

Her love and deep interest focuses on the transformational aspects of the practice and the possibility to develop a higher level of awareness. She loves to support her students to develop their full potential. Consciousness and compassion are main aspects of her teachings.
