2 Weeks of Ayurveda with Dr. Unni’s, Kovalam, Kerala – South India

2 Weeks of Ayurveda
Dr. Unni’s, South India / Kerala
with Cathrin
22.3. – 5.4.2027
Yoga and Ayurveda are closely interconnected. Both have their roots in the Vedic scriptures of India. Ayurveda is the knowledge or science of life and longevity. Here, health is regarded as a fundamental prerequisite for creative and spiritual growth, rather than as an end in itself.
Ayurveda offers us the knowledge of how to care well for the body: in terms of nutrition, medicine, and lifestyle.
Ayurveda is the medicine of nature, the medicine of life.
It reminds us of who we are.
And of what nourishes us on all levels.
Yoga offers us three additional wonderful tools:
Asana for physical health, flexibility, and the release of tension.
Pranayama for mental balance, increased energy, and the clearing of blockages in the subtle body.
Meditation for turning inward, focusing on the essentials, and cultivating mindfulness in daily life. Returning to our source. Who am I?
All of this brings you into the moment.
Into your breath, your body, your being.
Both systems pursue the same goal:
Balance and health. A conscious life in harmony with yourself and nature.

Dr. Unni’s is the perfect place to find tranquility in a world that is often loud, fast-paced, and demanding. It is situated at Kovalam Beach a small, still-quite-sleepy spot in the South of India, complete with a lighthouse. Here, you can quickly regain balance. Feel free to browse their website to get a better feel for this wonderful place.
The Ayurvedic Hospital & Hotel is nestled amidst ancient trees and bamboo. It is located 5 to 10 minutes from the beach. The rooms are spacious and bright, and all feature balconies with either garden- or sea-views. Amenities include an electric kettle, a small refrigerator, and a hairdryer. In the lobby is a water filter, where you can refill your water bottle. There is no need to buy plastic bottles of water!
Ayurvedic meals are served buffet-style (for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on a terrace shaded by trees.
A minimum of 2.5 hours per day is reserved for treatments. There is a daily consultation with the physician, and a team of experienced therapists guides you through the treatments. You receive medicine, freshly prepared at Dr. Unni’s every day, tailored entirely to your individual needs.

During these two weeks, the focus is on Ayurveda, not so much on the yoga practice. But of course we will maintain and nourish the yoga practice. Ayurveda can be physically and mentally demanding; one never knows how one will feel, or what the treatments might trigger or release. We will meet in the mornings on the rooftop to sit, breathe, and have a Mysore class.
Dr. Unni’s offers a complete package:
Ayurvedic consultations and treatments, meals, accommodation, Iyengar Yoga on the rooftop, airport transfers, and one Ayurvedic facial or foot reflexology massage.
What we offer you in addition:
Every morning: 5:45 AM Sitting & breathing on the rooftop followed by a Mysore class at 6:30 AM
Three afternoon or evening sessions per week (60–70 minutes each) of meditation and pranayama, serving as a complement to the Ayurvedic treatments
A visit to the temple (optional)
One preparatory meeting to get ready for the retreat
(we should make slight adjustments to our diet—e.g., eliminating caffeine—starting one week before the retreat begins)
The other afternoons are free. There is a wonderful little Devi Temple located very close by. The beach invites you to take a stroll or enjoy the sunset at the German Bakery. You can also climb the lighthouse. Alternatively, you can take a taxi to Trivandrum if you’re looking to experience the atmosphere of a bigger Indian city. A word of caution: it can be loud—and truly overwhelming! ;)
For those who have never been to India before, Kovalam makes for a wonderful introduction.

The group is limited to 10 people. If you are interested or have questions, email me: cathrin@ashtangastudio.de
Gettin There:
The best option is to fly to Bangalore, then continue on to Trivandrum. Flights typically arrive at the International Airport very early in the morning and after clearing immigration, you can take a free bus to the Domestic Terminal at a relaxed pace, and from there, catch a connecting flight to Trivandrum with IndiGo (or another Indian airline, such as Air India Express). You will be met there by the hotel upon arrival.
We are happy to assist you should you have any questions.
