„Ashtanga Yoga is a way to gradually change and dissolve constricting structures on all levels. I have not experienced this complexity and comprehensive effect in any other body practice. Yoga can accompany and support us throughout our lives; there is no point at which one is “finished.” This journey is exciting and thrilling, requiring a lot of patience and dedication.“
Andrea

Andrea has been practicing yoga since 1986, and after years of studying yoga under Shivananda and Iyengar, she first encountered Ashtanga Yoga in 1997. She was immediately fascinated by this challenging and complex yoga practice, and since then, her focus has been on the practice and teaching of Ashtanga Yoga in its traditional form.

Andreas’s teaching activity began in 1995, and in 2005 she opened her own school, the Ashtanga Studio Berlin. She now teaches workshops and retreats worldwide and has been offering training for yoga teachers and advanced practitioners since 2008.

Manju P. Jois certified Andrea to teach traditional Ashtanga Yoga in 2009. She has Manju’s blessing to teach the Advanced A series and to lead Teacher Trainings. In her practice and teaching, she follows the traditional Ashtanga Yoga of Sri K. Patthabi Jois, passed down through her teachers Manju P. Jois and Nancy Gilgoff. She has practiced, learned, and assisted with both in many workshops and Teacher Trainings over the past years. Since 2006, she has traveled every year for several months to Maui/Hawaii for a study stay to deepen her own practice with Nancy Gilgoff. Andrea practiced the old “Advanced A” series under Nancy’s guidance and learned the Pranayama techniques as taught by K. Patthabi Jois.

In addition, she studied Pranayama intensively for many years with Vinay Kumar in Mysore, India, and completed her Pranayama teacher training with him in 2022. Besides her main teacher, she has learned from many renowned teachers around the world over the past 30 years. In addition to Maui, Andrea regularly travels to India and Japan.

A comprehensive background in contemporary dance, alternative medicine (recognized as a practitioner in 1999), physiotherapy (1996-98), as well as further training in various methods of body therapy (Shiatsu, release technique, and Feldenkrais) complements her knowledge. She regularly practices Zazen and is initiated in the second degree of the Reiki method.
